What is glucosamine?

Glucosamine is a nutrient found in trace amounts in food. It is also made by human cartilage cells. Its role is to stimulate the production of long sugar chains called glycosaminoglycans, necessary for the reconstruction of cartilage.

As we age, the synthesis of this substance by the human body decreases, and this is how the cartilage loses its capacities and the disadvantages linked to this erosion begin. 

 Glucosamine is found in the body in the form of glucosamine 6-phosphate which plays a direct or indirect role in the formation of tissues surrounding the joints and useful for their proper functioning. It is also involved in the constitution of the skin and nails.

Unlike some other chemical substances conventionally used in this kind of concern, glucosamine stimulates the formation of proteoglycans which have the ability to retain water, thereby increasing the flexibility and resistance of cartilage, two qualities necessary during their compression generated by physical effort.

Which glucosamine and at what dose?

 Our glucosamine sulfate is stabilized by potassium chloride (KCl) which causes no secondary problems. 

Be careful, because there is a kind of glucosamine sulfate stabilized with sodium chloride (NaCl). Both forms seem to be as effective as the other, however sodium chloride (NaCl) is not recommended in case of problems affecting the circulation and oxygenation system of the body.

Taking 1500 mg of glucosamine per day is ideal in order to obtain a satisfactory result. The positive effects are felt on average after 6 to 8 weeks, the time necessary for the start of cartilage restructuring. Then, the improvement continues gradually. The longer the product is taken, the more obvious the effects.

The effectiveness of glucosamine is not felt until after this time, as discomfort will not decrease until the cartilage is repaired. In order to avoid further loss of cartilage, it is advisable to absorb glucosamine permanently. 

However, the maintenance of the result can be obtained with an amount of 1000 mg per day, which certainly makes it possible to avoid new crises. The effects are cumulative and lasting.

Glucosamine has no side effects and does not cause any reactions even when taken long term. It is particularly effective for problems affecting the large joints (hips, knees), but also to alleviate the concerns at the level of the spine. It is a little less efficient for small joints such as those of the fingers.

Glucosamine sulphate available on the market is often combined with chondroitin sulphates which are of little interest.

On the other hand in order to mitigate even more effectively the important genes, it is judicious to couple glucosamine to  Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane (MSM).

MSM is a natural nutrient, made up of sulfur found in food, mainly in milk, but also in many fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat.
