Anxiolysis is one of the great therapeutic aspirations of our society. Anxiety is the cause of countless psychological, physical and psychosomatic complaints.
The combination of Indian nard and passionflower covers most of these complaints and suppresses anxiety in a very effective, complex and profound way.
A quick and long-lasting action results from the combination of a ketone (jatamanson) and an alkaloid (harmane), while the combination of the dose, as well as the dosage forms, must be carefully calculated for a powerful action but perfectly safe.
Phytozen contains Himalayan Nard and Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata).
In India, the Himalayan Nard (Nardostachys jatamansi) (1) has been used for a very long time to support memory and to achieve total mental rest, among other things in case of stress. Jatamansi optimizes intellectual effort and promotes mental balance. It helps to improve intellectual capacities (anticholinesterase action), but nevertheless has soothing properties (stimulates the synthesis of serotonin). Jatamansi is used in situations of stress accompanied by nervousness, anxiety and confusion. Over the long term and thanks to regular use, jatamansi gently stimulates energy and alertness, but it also brings calm and tranquility. Jatamansi can be used without any danger during the day because it does not cause any drowsiness, only a feeling of calm, relaxation with a powerful relaxing effect.
Prabhu et al. studied in 1994 the effects of Nardostachys jatamansi on monoamines in the brain of rats. After massive administration, there is a significant increase in serotonin, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) and the amino acid that is taurine.
After 15 days, there is also an increase in the levels of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain.
Dopamine stimulation never resulted in aggression or hyperactivity, on the contrary. The regulatory action is also used in the case of hyperkinetic and related disorders.
Clinical studies
Recent studies have looked at the neurochemical properties of Nardostachys jatamansi: in 2006, a study by Ahmad et al. on the neurochemical properties of Indian nard studied in rats was published.
Indian nard appeared to be able to normalize lower levels of dopamine and its metabolites (norepinephrine, among others).
In depressed patients whose brain neurotransmitter levels are too low, we can see an increase in these levels after two weeks of treatment with Indian nard: more serotonin and norepinephrine, which means more energy, more GABA, which means more peace and quiet, and better functioning of the brain and memory, via more acetylcholine and dopamine, which improves work capacity and hard work.
During the first phase, there is a decrease in the stressful excess of dopamine and adrenaline, which leads to a phase of calm and relaxation.
As a tranquilizer, Indian nard can be taken during the day without the slightest risk: there is no sedation, just calm and relaxation, but also the possibility of more intense brain activity and better functioning mental. It is therefore indicated for anxiety and mania.
Side effects
No abnormal reaction if the recommended dosage is respected.
The action of Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) (2) is essentially based on the alkaloids it contains: harmans (harmane, harmol, harmine, harmalol and harmaline). Although present in the form of traces, they help to act as a real "anti-stress" in the event of pressure and sustained mental effort and therefore allow stress to be managed. During the day, passionflower will help keep calm and soothe in case of stress. At night, it will put in good conditions and facilitate falling asleep in order to benefit from a deep and restful sleep.
Since they have no toxicity, they can be administered during the day and in the evening, in combination with other plants such as Indian nard. However, the action of this alkaloid is central, therefore on the brain, and rather of long duration (for an night of 8 hours, but then in larger dose).
It is one of the best phytotherapeutic products for the nervous system, by day as anxiolytic and sedative in a dosage up to 100 mg, and by night as a hypnotic in larger doses, provided that you do not take it during the day.
A recent study shows the involvement of GABA receptor bonds by passionflower extract as a mechanism for the strong anxiolytic action.
Clinical studies
Researchers - Akhondzadeh et al., 2001 - compared the action of Passiflora incarnata compared to a conventional anxiolytic, in a randomized double-blind study in 36 patients with anxiety disorders. 'oxazepam (30 mg / day). The patients were arbitrarily separated into two groups. 18 received passionflower, the other 18 received oxazepam for 4 weeks.
The action of passionflower was similar to that of the classic anxiolytic. Oxazepam worked a little faster. However, the oxazepam group encountered many more problems relating to a decline in professional services. The researchers came to the conclusion that Passiflora incarnata could be an effective means in the treatment of the general disorders of the anguish.
Side effects
